Thoughts

My “book” is partially finished. It houses three smaller books. I finally finished the book covers last week. They each represent motifs of my thought process, in a sense. My favorite one expresses my personal motto, canvas salutation/disclaimer. Another one plays homage to the poetry/idea book I have kept since my creative writing class eight years ago. The final one is a companion to the blog. I plan on archiving some posts and experimenting with ideas, space providing.  I will take a picture of the three books later.

The “4″ doesn’t represent anything siginificant other than for some reason I’ve always liked the number. I wanted the lid of the book shaped box to represent the door["my mental"] apartment. The door is open revealing the contents of the “room”. I especially like how the interior looks like a bookcase. It wasn’t easy getting this set to cooperate and pose. I had a tough time keeping the books from falling down so I had to sort of prop them up again the interior page.

Art Journaling: pages of adventure

The Door by onecanvasonesoul

Since I was a kid I wrote in a journal. Many of my journals are unfinished because I probably got bored writing in the same notebook. I’ve also loved art since a young age too. Which puts in context my recent discovery of art journaling. It’s a subcategory of scrapbooking combining writing with visuals. I decided to work on a set of codices that explore themes. I currently have three: 1.) explores my motto and canvas disclaimer 2.) illustrates my poetry idea journal 3.) explores ideas and chronicles Canvas Poetry.

Here is what I have so far, along with the box which houses the moleskine books. My Art Journal project:

I’m a thinker

I’m a thinker

who sifts through volumes

of quire

many make the fire

but some I do not tire

so easily

I tinker til such mental objects

are polished into poetics.

Breadcrumbs

Upon a narrow strip of cobble stone a cardinal hops picking up the trail of breadcrumbs from the spring thaw into the january frost, he flutters in warmth as he gently pecks the earth and nibbles the little feast set before him he flutters in peace knowing he is well taken care of. Word Collection

While I was doing my final reading assignment for last semester I stumbled on a bunch of words that I either didn’t know or found to be obscure and interesting. During this two book reading ordeal I kept my notepad and cell with dictionary.com on my mobile bookmark. So far it has become a great tool to build my vocabulary. I have also become more of a “word collector”, if you will. I acquire words from my ventures in literature and I visit dictionary.com for their word of the day. Check to see if they offer e-mail or text “word of the day” notifications, if you’re interested.

In this notebook of words you can log new words, favorite words with a foreign language twist, obscure words, and more. With space permitting scribble the definition beside it too. You can also use these words in personal poetry and short story challenges.

Feel free to share your word collections and what you’ve done with them with the canvas at: onecanvas_onesoul@yahoo.

inquisition

…What is the weight of a word measured by the heart? In what tone does one’s voice pitch frequent upon the winds, flowing through the canals. wouldn’t it make sense to give thought to your accents… (c)j.ajabad 2011

Choose a New Name for the Poetry Blog

So I’ve been thinking about changing the name of my poetry blog. I want canvas to remain in the name as it is part of my One Canvas One Soul project. However, I decided to open a voting poll for my readers to choose the fate of my blog. I have recently received some input and another potential name to choose from. So I decided to reset the “voting booth” and expand the time span in which I accept votes.

The poll will be open from now until the end of the year. Below are the rules and tidbits.

Voting Guidelines:

  1. Choose your favorite from the list.
  2. You may only choose one choice.
  3. You may vote once a day.
  4. Voting ends Dec. 31, 2011 at 11:59.

While I’m Alive

by: Kryptonight83

As the story is told
A pedal falls
It trickles through time
And keeps a constant rhyme.

The flower of life
Begins to die
And yet the waves grow
Pushing against the wind’s blow.

That beautiful pedal
Soon turned into ash
Sinks to the bottom
Although, never forgotten.

The waves return
The ash creates life
A new flower is born
For a pedal to be torn.
